The Importance of Reading Your Bible Every Day to Know God and Understand His Ways

Happy New Year! Here we are now in 2025 and there is no better time to evaluate our spiritual habits and ensure we are setting ourselves up for growth this year. One of the most foundational disciplines for a believer is daily Bible reading. Spending time in God’s Word is essential for knowing Him and understanding His ways.

The Bible is not just a collection of stories or ancient wisdom; it is the living and active Word of God. When we open the Scriptures daily, we align our hearts and minds with God’s truth, allowing it to guide us in every area of life. Let’s explore why this habit is so vital and how it can transform your spiritual walk in the coming year.

Knowing God Through His Word

God’s Word reveals His character, His promises, and His plan for humanity. Without reading the Bible regularly, it is impossible to truly know God and understand His ways. The Scriptures are His love letter to us, full of wisdom, instruction, and encouragement.

In John 17:17, Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” Reading the Bible daily sanctifies us by filling our hearts with God’s truth and helping us live holy lives. Additionally, Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” God’s Word illuminates our way, guiding us through life’s challenges and uncertainties.

Building Faith by Hearing the Word

Faith is a key component of our relationship with God, and it grows as we hear His Word spoken aloud. Romans 10:17 reminds us, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” When we read the Bible out loud, we engage both our minds and our spirits, allowing the truth of God’s Word to take root in our hearts.

Starting with just 10 to 15 minutes a day can make a significant difference. Choose a quiet place, open your Bible, and read aloud. This practice not only increases your understanding but also builds your faith as you hear God’s promises declared over your life.
